PhycoTech Workshop

About Our Algal Taxonomy & Ecology Workshop

Attend this exclusive, one full week of training on taxonomy, identification and ecology of algae. Each day will consist of lectures on various topics including methodology, algal divisions, recent changes to taxonomy, HABS, and differences in approaches to taxonomic classification. There will be microscope sessions in which participants will view preserved and live specimens while receiving handsā€on training in identification. Participants are encouraged to bring their own samples as well.  No direct experience with algae required, but workshop targets participants with backgrounds in biology and scientific methods.

All attendees will receive a manual that covers algal methods, identification, ecology, and management - prepared by the instructor and based on three decades of professional experience. Sessions start at 8:00 a.m. and run through 5:30 p.m. each day and are held at the PhycoTech training facility in beautiful St. Joseph, Michigan on the shore of Lake Michigan.
